Top 10 Window Shades Trends for 2025: Elevate Your Home Decor

The last we checked…window shades were just functional pieces for our windows. Fast forward to today, they’re a stylish—and statement—piece (functional too, of course) 😁

As we’re moving into 2025, we’re seeing fun trends making their way into window shades. The type that make your space beautiful and trendy! Keep reading for the top 10 window shades trends for 2025, and beyond 🤍

Sustainable Materials

You’ve probably seen window shades made of fabric. This will usually be linen or cotton. But in 2025, as the world moves towards more sustainable practices, we’re seeing a shift in these materials.

Bamboo

Bamboo is a lightweight material for shades. It grows really quickly—and doesn’t need any pesticides—so, it’s a (really) renewable resource. In your home, it will make for a durable pick. We especially love bamboo shades in bohemian interiors. And also minimalist ones, that need some extra warmth.

Organic Cotton

Organic cotton is grown without any pesticides. It is soft and breathable. Plus, it can be dyed in various colors. Bedrooms—where filtered light can create a nice environment—will do well with organic cotton shades.

Hemp

Growing hemp doesn’t need any chemical inputs. It also requires minimal water. When used in shades, hemp will be extremely durable. It is also naturally antibacterial. Hemp shades work particularly well in industrial and rustic interiors.

Jute

You’ve probably seen jute for rugs; it also works well as window shades! Jute is biodegradable and grows quickly. When used in shades, it will usually have a light golden brown color. If you have a coastal or farmhouse-inspired space, jute shades will look amazing.

Smart Tech

You will no longer need to manually pull those shades! In 2025, we’re looking towards smart tech, that not only automatically controls shades’ movement, but gives you so many more features.

Automated Control

“Smart” shades can be programmed to adjust automatically based on various conditions. For example, if sunlight is too intense, they will roll down to filter those UV rays. Or when it gets dark outside, they may provide coverage—all by themselves. This is also a helpful feature if your shades are in a difficult place to reach, for instance over a banquette or behind a sofa.

Integration with Voice and App

Many smart shades are already compatible with voice assistance. So you can simply say “Alexa, roll down the shades”. And there you go, job done 😁 Some can also be integrated with mobile apps. This allows users to adjust shades from anywhere (as long as you have your phone).

Energy Efficient

If your smart shades will automatically roll up during the day—you will not need to use artificial lighting. That means lower energy consumption. Some shades can also provide insulation, which helps maintain the temperature of your home.

Layering

We’re seeing lots of texture in 2025—so much that shades alone wouldn’t be able to achieve it. Instead, a layering of different window treatments can help serve the purpose.

When layering your blinds, you want to keep in mind functionality as well as aesthetics. Ideally, the bottom layer should be functional, like window shades. The top layer can be decorative, such as curtains. (Colors and textures will account for the decorative presence here).

For our example here, you can install the base layer (i.e. the shades) inside the window frame. And mount the top layer (i.e. the curtains) outside the frame—using double curtain rods, if possible.

Bold Patterns and Colors

Minimalism is (finally) out—and for good! In 2025 design trends, there’s lots of colors and patterns, and this applies to window shades, too.

In that regard, we’re seeing plenty of patterns…

  • Geometric—for a modern and dynamic look
  • Floral—for nature and elegance
  • Abstract motifs—for an artistic flair

And when it comes to colors, there’s really no stopping. You can go as bold—or as light—as you wish. We’re loving the drama that rich tones like burgundy add. There are also yellows and oranges to energize your space.

Some Luxury

Designers are anticipating some luxurious elements in 2025 window treatments. We’ll be extending the concept of layering here. So, if you have linen shades, you can pair these with luxury velvet curtains. This also creates a beautiful balance: linen has an airy vibe, velvet has an opulent feeling.

Alternatively, you can use elegant designs (that also add luxury) For example, the gentle folds of Roman shades soften hard lines. If you’re looking for something extra special, you can also consider custom shades; these are made just for your window—and your window only 😊

Airiness

We’ve heard designers saying sheer fabrics are growing on them—and we wouldn’t blame them. Sheer fabrics are becoming a 2025 trend, because they can diffuse light + keep the space open. If you ask us—they’re ethereal!

We look forward to seeing them in the new year, especially when they’re lightweight and also have some pattern. Perfect for layering or as standalone treatments. And great for creating a breezy space!

Fitted Shades

Fitted shades within a window frame allows for a clean aesthetic. This look works especially well in older homes that have a beautiful trim, millwork, and molding. It really helps put that craftsmanship on full display!

Additionally, because fitted shades sit right in the window, they can create an uncluttered look. They help save space, and can work well in small rooms. Two types of shades that are usually fitted into your window are cellular and roller shades.

Emphasis on Natural Light

We’ve seen natural light become the center of design over the past few years, and this trend continues into 2025. With maximizing natural light being a priority, we’re forecasting window treatments that allow adjustable light control to become all the rage. For example, top-down and bottom-up shades; these allow light to enter but also give you privacy.

Another option is solar shades. These reduce glare as well as UV rays while still letting natural light to enter. Banded shades—also called zebra shades—have alternating sheer and opaque bands. The bands are then aligned to allow your desired level of illumination.

Illuminated Window Shades

Don’t get much sunlight outdoors? No problem; your window shades can compensate for it. Some types of window shades integrate built-in illumination. This allows homeowners to simulate natural light indoors—so, even if the sun’s not out, we’ll make sure the sun is in 😉

Illuminated shades will usually feature a textured front shade, and then a room-darkening liner and LED lighting. This creates your own cozy space indoors. Such shades aren’t too common right now, but we’re predicting an increase in popularity in 2025.

Traditional Glam

As folks look for something more innovative than the modern design style, some fancy window shades are coming back. Case in point: Austrian shades. The hallmark of these is the elegant and scalloped folds that form as a result of vertical shirring. When you raise them, the fabric will gather into puffy festoons. This makes your interior feel luxurious and sophisticated—and something reminiscent of the royal past 😉
