Products
A zip-track shade uses a zippered edge that locks into side rails, guiding the fabric inside the track for a tighter seal and more stable operation.
Zip-track helps reduce flapping, bowing, and side gaps because the fabric stays secured in the rails—especially noticeable in breezy or gusty areas.
They’re designed to be wind-stable (fabric retained in the rails vs. free edges). The windproof rating for our exterior shades is level 8 (approximately Beaufort force 8, mean winds about 39–46 mph).
Yes—because the edges are captured in the rails, zip-track systems can create a more sealed perimeter that helps reduce insects and wind-blown dust.
They can help reduce wind-driven mist and light rain, but they are not a fully waterproof wall. For better rain protection, our blackout fabric (fabric yarns are weaved tighter or with back coating) works better.
Technical Specifications
We offer two premium screen-fabric options: PVC-coated polyester and fiberglass. Both are outdoor-ready, durable, and designed for sun control and long-term performance. PVC-coated polyester is a popular choice for strong toughness and everyday outdoor use, while fiberglass is valued for excellent dimensional stability and a smooth, consistent appearance.
Our premium motor connects by Wi-Fi and works with Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, and the Tuya app—so you can control your exterior shades by voice, from your phone, or with schedules and automations from anywhere.
Our shades use a heavy-duty motor that’s pre-wired (hardwired) at the factory for reliable performance. To power the shade, you’ll need access to a standard U.S. 120V outlet near the installation location.
Our maximum size depends on the control type and frame tier. Motorized shades are available in three frame tiers—up to 9.8' W × 9.8' H, up to 19' W × 16' H, and up to 45' W × 22' H. We use different motors, cassette and side-rail frame sizes for each tier to ensure the shade stays strong, stable, and performance-ready at larger spans. Manual-control shades are available up to 13' W × 9.8' H.
Measuring and Installation
Secure mounting is key. Install into solid structure (wood framing, beams/posts, concrete/brick, or properly reinforced surfaces). Avoid weak or hollow surfaces without reinforcement.
Choose Inside Mount when you have a solid, square/rectangle opening (between posts or inside a framed opening) and you want the shade to fit within the structure for the cleanest look. Choose Outside Mount when you want maximum coverage (to reduce side gaps/light), your opening isn’t perfectly square/rectangle, or you need more flexibility—this mounts the shade on the surface above/around the opening. When in doubt, outside mount is usually the safest choice for broader coverage and easier fit.
Inside Mount (fits inside the opening):
- Measure the inside width at top, middle, and bottom (to the nearest 1/8"). Use the smallest width.
- Measure the inside height at left, center, and right. Use the smallest height.
- Confirm you have a solid, level mounting surface inside the opening (posts/frame) for the cassette and side rails.
Outside Mount (mounts on the surface around the opening):
- Measure the full area you want covered (overall width and overall height to the nearest 1//8").
- Add extra coverage where possible to reduce gaps—typically 2.5–6 inches per side for width and height (as your mounting space allows).
- Ensure you have a strong surface (beam/header/posts or wall) for secure attachment.
Tip: If your opening is uneven or you want the most sun/wind coverage, outside mount is usually the easiest and most forgiving option.
Most customers choose DIY installation, and it’s very doable by following our detailed instructions—we recommend two people for faster, safer handling of the housing and side rails. If you’d rather have help (or want professional measuring), we’ve partnered with National Blinds Installation, Inc. for professional measuring and installation. Their service covers about 83% of the continental U.S., their installers average 24 years of experience, and around 60% of their pros can install outdoor shades. You can enter your ZIP code on our website to check local availability. Professional Measuring and Installation
Your order includes three main pre-matched components: (1) a pre-assembled top housing (cassette with motor and internal components), (2) left side rail with zip-track, and (3) right side rail with zip-track. We also include essential accessories such as mounting screws with anchors and new U.S. standard plugs. (The product manual and details instructions are paperless and will be sent to customers via emails.).
